Happy Holidays! I’ve been pondering the annual Christmas letter & decided upon brief summaries for each household member.
Kianna: A smart, kind, be-speckled nearly 10-year-old tall thin beauty. With her glasses, blonde hair & bangs, she is a reminiscent of a mini-me in my 20’s. She is most at home in the company of boys and is a proud to declare herself a “tom boy.” She loves school and is an excellent student.
Alex: A loving, bright, be-speckled prepubescent 12-year-old boy who is most at home playing sports and the Wii. He is an expert on all things sports and geography. He was awarded “Most Improved” in his 1st trimester of 6th grade after achieving a 3.25 grade point average!
Kurt: A caring, devoted contact-wearing Dad and husband. He continues to work as a physical therapist and is still with Adient Health in Palo Alto. He is most at home hunting, fishing and playing and watching sports with his family. He is the parent on duty twice a week (while Judy works) and does a bang up job of carting children, helping with homework and cooking dinner.
Judy: (That’s me)An often-joyful, be-speckled Mom, wife & speech therapist. I continue with my private practice, Sage Therapy, and as a board member of the Special Ed PTA of Redwood City (SEPTAR). I enjoy my work & facilitating support groups. I’m the parent on duty 3 pm’s a week while Kurt works.
Nancy: The be-speckled “B.G.” (“beautiful grandmother”) has been living with us 4 years now. Her Alzheimer’s continues to advance but she is generally happy & helpful around the house. She is most at home playing solitaire, doing crossword puzzles, playing fetch & loving the various pets.
Bear:A 16-year-old cat who is quite tolerant of the ever increasing number of beings in the household. He is most at home when sharing the paper, coffee and breakfast with Kurt at the kitchen counter each morning.
Sammy: An ancient guinea pig in poor health who refuses to follow the light & go to the great beyond of rolling grass hills & unlimited baby carrots.
Java: A 3-year-old Chocolate Lab who is most at home duck hunting with Kurt, playing fetch & crawling under the sheets to sleep on my legs. She often sits in a chair at the table beside B.G. She offers B.G. advice on crossword puzzles & solitaire, while also pelting her with tennis balls to solicit games of fetch.
Tess: A 1-year-old Labradoodle who is terrified of hair cuts and now has dread locks. Her hair is naturally changing color from “chocolate brown” to “lavender.” When you pay way too much for a dog they call it “lavender” not “dirty mop grey.” Tess is most at home when having her belling rubbed, biting Java’s butt and wrestling with Izzy.
Izabelle: “Izzy” a 2-year-old Golden Retriever who is a “facility dog” at my speech therapy practice. She was trained & provided by the wonderful group Canine Angels (www.canine-angels.org), which provides service dogs to children. She joins me at work daily where she is incorporated into therapy, a motivator & a loving presence. She is most at home when being loved, eating & playing with Tess. She is also quite tolerant about wearing her Santa outfit.
